What Am I supposed to do again?!?

So while I grade papers and read articles, I been starting to think about roles in a relationship...Financially, emotionally, physically...what is the standard for two people, in a relationship trying to make things work. I've had conversations with my mom and she talked about how my pop paid all of the household bills; rent, utilities, etc and she paid for everything else, groceries, vacations and the clothes and up keep of the family. I'm not sure how the household chores and things like that went because I was too young to remember. That was also in the late 80s too, women were a lot more open to concept of actually being a wife and men were open to being a provider. Nowadays, judging by the number of single parents and unmarried friends I have this leads me to be true...So for the sake of argument...if we were to make a list of you fill it in...it would go like this...

When you are in the process of developing and sustaining a serious relationship...
A Man Should....
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

A Woman Should...
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

I can expect this to be partly hilarious as well as informative...and I encourage you to leave your comment on the comment page so we can see how different our answers are...

  1. I can say I agree. A family needs roles; even more so if kids are involved. I have something like a list and this is subject to change based on the finances and dependents of the family. So for the sake of participation we will say my list is based on a married family in a house (not apartment) with no kids.

    A Man Should...
    1. Handle household needs (ie. Mortgage, gas, water, electricity)
    2. House up keep, which can be very expensive if you own a home. (ie. air conditioner repairs, new refrigerator, lawn work)
    3. Up keep of cars (wash, oil changes)
    4. Play a major part in money management for the household. (No one party should be solely responsible for the joint account)
    5. Have a man cave. Women take over a home easily. If she's like me every room in the house becomes a project. In turn every room in the house becomes "hers" the kitchen, the bedroom, even the bathroom. That cave is your own. Whatever it is you want in there is your business (as long as there are no women lol)

    A Woman Should...
    1. Handle household wants (cable, cellphones, internet)
    2. In house upkeep. (CLEAN...no man likes a nasty woman. Some things get junky during the week but by the weekend things should be back to normal...seriously)
    3. COOK COOK COOK. I take this from my mother. My pops buys the groceries and she cooks. If she doesn't cook she feeds them with her own money because he has already supplied her with the tools needed to feed them both. If her schedule doesn't permit a cooked meal he isn't punished because of it.
    4. Play a major part in money management for the household. (No one party should be solely responsible for the joint account)
    5. GIVE THAT MAN A CAVE & LET HIM BE GREAT! Our men do so many things for us and with us that they are flat out NOT interested in. A good man isn't going to tell you he hates shopping with you, he's gonna find a seat and watch your purse. So why not give him that?

    Just my thoughts.

  6. Don't get me started on that disgrace. No one says you have to cook like "big mama" but would you really feed your family foods that are harmful to them in the long run. Go boil some water. It starts there.
