Be your own idol

I'm about 11 weeks away from being a father of a beautiful baby girl...so as a teacher and an observer of social trends I'm starting to question and wonder about what we will be turning our child over to when we arent around...

Based from my earlier instagram post about Marilyn Monroe, I was intrigued to find more deeper information about her life...I remember watching Norma Jean and Marilyn way back in the gap but I constantly wonder what made her such an idol for young black girls...aside from the fact that she was beautiful..which is an understatement because she was BADDDDDD...

Here's my thing...why do we idolize people we dont know...we spend a vast majority of our life looking UP to people who if given the chance would look down on us. Be Your Own Idol. Live your life...not based from a weak comparison but because of you being secure in your successes as well as your failures...

I just don't want our your kids growing up following these pointless trends...lying celebrities that pay people to conceal their personal lives...and fake role models that tells you what you want to hear ti make you feel better...

But what do I know? I'm just a teacher...
